You may be surprised to find out that ADHD has some positive traits that can be used to your advantage and that it may all stem back to evolution.

Why it Occurs in the First Place

We don’t know precisely why ADHD occurs, but there are some theories, of which the most popular tend to revolve around evolution.

In the modern world, it seems evident that some common ADHD symptoms can often be disadvantageous, but if we think back to earlier human history, this may not be the case.

In today’s world, success requires a distinctly different set of traits than long ago. For example, in modern society, being able to sit and focus on something like schoolwork for long periods of time is often a trait that’s rewarded. In earlier human history, however, this may not be the case.

Earlier humans likely needed more curiosity and a desire for exploration to find food, shelter, and water successfully. This curiosity and a desire for novel experiences is highly characteristic of people with ADHD.

This means the brains of people with ADHD may just be better suited to the challenges of our past.
