Goals can be very motivating. However, not all goals are created equal. This guide has some of the most scientifically backed ways to build better goals.

Almost all of us have set goals for ourselves in the past. All too often, however, these goals are quickly forgotten about, relinquished to the piece of paper we wrote them, assuming we made the effort to do so.

It’s not surprising why this is the case. For many of us, goals were something we had to do for school, which meant as soon as we got our grades for doing so, the goals themselves became irrelevant.

Why You Should Be Making Better Goals

All it takes is a quick review of the scientific literature to see just how important setting well-thought-out goals can be.

For example, goals can

  • Increase motivation
  • Help hold ourselves accountable
  • Help prioritize

However, to reap the most benefits from this practice, we need to be conscious of our goals and how we make them, as not all goals are created equal. The guidelines for doing just that will be covered shortly.
