The Readers Mindset: What it is and How to Get it
For a long time, I wondered how to motivate myself to read more. What I discovered is that it had more to do with the mindset than it did with motivation.
When I was younger, the only real reading I did was that which was required for school.
It would take me until a few years after high school to realize what I was missing out on, but as I started reading more, I also began to realize why I had missed out on it.
If You Treat it Like a Chore, it Will Always be Boring
It’s no surprise, to me at least, that I didn’t enjoy reading. After all, think of the other things we get assigned as homework when we’re young. We usually don’t end up doing those types of things in our free time.
For some reason, however, reading seems to be different. In fact, in elementary and middle school, in particular, I remember some of my friends would be reading a book in their free time in addition to the book we were reading in class. To me, that kind of behavior could only be described as bizarre at the time, but it makes perfect sense to me now.
