What is Green Tea? Backstory and Benefits
Green tea has a long history of use, dating back many centuries. With so many benefits, its popularity is no surprise.
Green tea is said to have been mistakingly discovered in 2737 BC by Emperor Shennong of China.
Fast forward a few thousand years, and it would be used for medicinal purposes in China. Shortly after that, it would be enjoyed recreationally. It wouldn't be until many centuries later that it would be adopted by European and Western culture as a whole.
Given its long history, you may wonder what exactly green tea is. Where does it come from? What benefits does it have?
Where Does Green Tea Come From?
Geographically speaking, about 85% of the world's green tea comes from China.
But more specifically, green tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant. Native to East and Southeast Asia, this evergreen shrub is known for its glossy green leaves as well as fragrant white flowers.
